For this week’s Why LBJWCS, we’re excited to introduce LBJWCS Advisory Council Vice Chair Dasheika Ruffin. Dasheika has helped prepare our cohort members to become stronger, more authentic storytellers. Drawing on more than 20 years of experience in law, advocacy, and some of the nation's most high-profile political campaigns, she equips participants with the tools to craft compelling messages that connect with voters.

Mayor Na’Cole Thompson is a graduate of Cohort 3 of the LBJ Women's Campaign School. After serving her community as a City Council member and Mayor Pro-Tem, Mayor Thompson successfully ran for mayor in a special election this past February.

Allison Bush is a graduate of Cohort 6 of the LBJ Women's Campaign School and now serves on the LBJWCS Advisory Council. Today, she is the Democratic nominee for Texas State Board of Education, District 5.

The campaign school’s training provides comprehensive support for change-makers seeking to run for office or lead political campaigns, regardless of party affiliation.

The LBJ Women’s Campaign School and the LBJ School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin are proud to announce Hope Osborn as the next Executive Director of the LBJ Women’s Campaign School. Osborn brings extensive experience in public policy, government affairs, and nonprofit leadership, along with a longstanding commitment to advancing women in political leadership.

Fifty years later, the LBJ Women’s Campaign School brought leaders from across the country for the 50th Anniversary Women in Public Life Symposium: A Bipartisan Path Forward to honor the past and build on that legacy.

In 1975, Lady Bird Johnson and Liz Carpenter hosted the largest international women's conference in the United States at The University of Texas at Austin's LBJ School of Public Affairs — the Women in Public Life Conference. To mark the 50th anniversary of this historic event, the LBJ Women's Campaign School will host the Women in Public Life Symposium: A Bipartisan Path Forward on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025 at the Lady Bird Johnson Auditorium in the LBJ Presidential Library at UT Austin.

The sixth incoming class at the LBJ Women’s Campaign school includes change-makers from across the country representing a wide range of political parties and ideologies, with plans to run for school board, city council, judge, state legislature, and Congress.

9 LBJWCS are on the ballot on November 5, 2024. They are running for railroad commissioner, state legislatures, city councils, school districts, and judge. The number of LBJWCS women candidates has doubled in this election cycle in contract to the nationwide decline in women running for office.
